Calderdale & Kirklees 999 Call for the NHS (CK999) aims to stop NHS cuts and sell offs in both areas and all three towns – Dewsbury, Halifax and Huddersfield.
The Save Calderdale Royal Hospital fb group, that CK999 came out of, has always from the start campaigned on the basis of “keep both A&Es in Halifax & Huddersfield open, 24/7”.
CK 999 is the result of the march we organised in Aug 2014, that went from Calderdale Royal Hospital, to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, to Dewsbury District Hospital, to Pinderfields – where we linked up with the 999 Call for the NHS people’s march from Jarrow to London. We realised the links that the march created, between campaigns and people in all four towns, needed to be kept alive. Which is why we’re still going.
We’re not sure how the impression was created that we’re only campaigning to stop NHS cuts and sell offs in Calderdale, and guess it was because we failed to state this plainly and clearly, so sorry for any confusion!
CK999 campaigns to stop NHS cuts and sell offs in both Calderdale and Kirklees and we also work with Wakefield “support the NHS” campaigners who share our aims.
We also understand that all the local cuts and sell offs plans are the result of national government and national quangos’ policies and we are linked up with 19 NHS campaign groups across England in active support of the NHS Reinstatement Bill.
We are constituted as an unincorporated association. The Chair is Jenny Shepherd, Secretary is Victoria Kennedy and Treasurer, Steph Clarke.
